A Fool for Christ

The other night I was watching a news interview in which the man being interviewed scoffed at the reality of God. He spouted all sorts of worldly garbage about how stupid we all are for believing in God and in the Bible, he said we are all delusional idiots, and that we are essentially pathetic for needing such a crutch as our faith to lean on.

The enemy of my soul wants me to believe the lies of this age. I am encouraged to believe God is a myth and a fairy tale. I am told I am a fool for placing my trust in Jesus Christ. The enemy does persecute our souls and routinely pounds us with the arrows of unbelief.  He brings discouragement daily and seeks to cause us to believe that we have no hope for today and certainly no hope for eternity.

Men like these are evil and violent. They are constantly devising evil in their hearts and stirring up wars with their tongues. Their desire is that we trip on our beliefs, and fall into their pit. They would like to have wars of logic with Christians, and using human wisdom and persuasion "help" us to stop believing what we know is true. As convinced as we are that they are wrong about who and what we believe in, they are equally convinced that you and I are fools at the deepest level. The thoughts of God are not precious in the least to them and in their opinion the words of God are the delusional ramblings of cave dwellers.

In the face of such a constant barrage, is it any wonder that our courage fails? Is it any wonder we succumb to the ravages of emotionalism and things like depression and loneliness? Our souls are crying out for God and we are watching the latest episode of our favorite television series!

This is why the importance of remembering truth is paramount! We must mediate on the truth we have hidden in our hearts, recall God's faithfulness to us and to the heroes of old. Meditate on the work of the hands of God, have an encounter with the beauty He has created with a word from His mighty mouth.  This life is desolate compared to the wonders of the heavens and without the realities of who God is and what He has done firmly and constantly implanted within our souls, we will quickly become  parched and our inner man become a vast wasteland.

Our ever-sinful heart will begin to doubt and falter and we will soon wonder why worshiping God was ever important at all. We will cease to think godly thoughts and will rapidly stop living to glorify Him as a result.

Our God has given us the means to know how to live and the way to walk, He has set His Spirit within us to lead us and guide us through life. He has delivered our souls from the clutches of hell and has prepared a place for us at His table in paradise. He showers us with lovingkindness every day we have life and breath. Revive our hearts, Oh Lord!

On the glorious splendor of Your majesty and on Your wonderful works, I will meditate. Men shall speak of the power of Your awesome acts, and I will tell of Your greatness. They shall eagerly utter the memory of Your abundant goodness and will shout joyfully of Your righteousness.

The LORD is gracious and merciful; Slow to anger and great in lovingkindness. The LORD is good to all,  And His mercies are over all His works. All Your works shall give thanks to You, O LORD, and Your godly ones shall bless You. They shall speak of the glory of Your kingdom and talk of Your power; To make known to the sons of men Your mighty acts and the glory of the majesty of Your kingdom. Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and Your dominion endures throughout all generations.
Psalm 145:5-13 (NASB)

Knowing these things, I would rather be a fool for Christ than a "wise" woman on my way to hell.
